The US ladies strolled (to put it mildly) to a record-breaking 13-0 victory against an overmatched Thailand in their World Cup Group F opener. And when it was over, they consoled and encouraged the defeated. In case you missed it, here’s the full carnage…- Greg Seltzer

With some key guys still being rested, there’s not much room to gripe over starters (I am delighted we’ll get our first look at Boyd, and against a team that will try to play). Frankly, the more important issue for this final Gold Cup tune-up is cleaning up final third play. I’ll be watching that closely
After the game, my USMNT player ratings will be up at MLSS.

Here are the guys charged with taking the United States to the Under-20 World Cup semis for the first time in 30 years. We didn’t get every advisable change, but Tab Ramos has turned to a different netminder. I’ll see you on the other side with US ratings over at MLSS.

It comes right down to this: Knock off France and the possibility of an Under-20 World Cup title run opens right up. Of course, that is easier said than done. And frankly, I’m not sure Tab Ramos has made the right calls at one or two key positions. Where’s Llanez? How about Cerillo?

We shall see if the boss has pulled the right levers for the toughest test his team will face at this tournament.

Well, one can definitely say that Mix Diskerud is as consistent a performer in South Korea as he is in Norway or Sweden. The Ulsan Hyundai midfielder deposited the opener (his sixth in 21 games across all competitions for The Tiger) in Saturday’s 3-1 victory at Jeju United that kept his side level on points at the top of the table.

I’ll get a USMNT roster reaction up in a bit, but for now let’s talk Emmanuel Sabbi. To put it mildly, the Hobro attacker has owned the Danish Superliga relegation playoffs. After keeping his team up and alive with an extra time winner in the semis, he bagged another decider in Thursday’s final tie opener against Viborg.

So manager Tab Ramos has learned the structual lesson from the Baby Nats loss to Under-20 World Cup opening foe Ukraine, switching the team to a proper 4-3-3. Let’s hope they can get Weah isolated out wide where he belongs, and some of the other guys have bounce-back outings in this near-must win game. I’ll see you on the other side with US ratings over at MLSS.

I’ll have some commentary on the USMNT’s provisional Gold Cup roster a little later, but first let’s shine a light on some rally heroics by our boys over in Denmark from Sunday night.

We’ll start with Emmanuel Sabbi, who saved Hobro from relegation with an extra time header. After setting up the goal that leveled their survival playoff tie with Vejle BK early in Sunday’s away leg (play starts at

THE @MLS GOAL SCORING KING! ? #Wondo146 pic.twitter.com/Jsf3KdliWu

Where’s Wondo? At the top of the all-time regular season MLS scoring hill. Yep, San Jose skipper Chris Wondolowski’s Saturday four tallies (!!!!) against Chicago has put him past Landon Donovan as the new record goal-getter.

If you’ve ever read anything about soccer or watched enough telecasts, you know well by now that the clichéd gold standard for goal scorers is to strike about once every two games or better. It’s the line to strive for, no matter where in the world one laces the boots. Before we get to today’s big announcement, a quick programming note. As I was preparing to post the promised stat-nerd bit on MLS double game weeks the other night, I noticed an error. The win-loss totals did not match up, so I must go back through the numbers to find where I goofed and fix it. That recount will take me a little time, but I do have a replacement regarding the all-time leaders in

In part because he missed a few games due to injury picked up on USMNT duty, Christian Pulisic had not scored for Borussia Dortmund in nearly two months. That goal drought ended on Saturday, when he chalked up a fast (in more ways than one) opener in a 2-2 draw at Werder Bremen.

Meanwhile, one flight down… everyone, all together… Andrew Wooten can’t stop scoring. His brace (

FC Nordsjælland wing terror Jonathan Amon lit the lamp for the first time since September on Monday night to open the scoring in what would end as a 2-1 home loss to FC Midtjylland. While it was great to see the US speedster back on the board, his club lost nearly all hope of securing a Europa League invite with the result.

Why? Because Andrew Wooten is singlehandledly trying to keep Sandhausen in the second Bundesliga. After scoring the opening double in a 2-2 draw at Duisburg, the forward has seven goals in their last eight games – the last six of which have made up a season-best unbeaten streak (4-0-2) that has the team clear of the danger zone with four to play.
