‘We can’t leave him out there,’ says wife of pilot of plane carrying Emiliano Sala

The family of David Ibbotson, the missing pilot of the plane carrying the footballer Emiliano Sala, have spoken of their determination to find and recover the body of the man they described as “our rock”.

In her first broadcast interview his wife, Nora Ibbotson, said: “We just know we can’t leave him out there on his own, until we have tried to do everything we can.”

Geoff Pearson, who advises British police, says the use of force as seen in Marseille is counterproductive

An expert on football hooliganism who witnessed violence involving England fans in Marseille on Thursday night has said heavy-handed police tactics contributed to the trouble.

Police used teargas, dogs and rubber bullets to break up the brawl between locals and England fans who had gathered at the Queen Victoria pub two days before England’s opening Euro 2016 game.

Ex-director of public prosecutions Lord Macdonald adds to calls for officers to held to account after unlawful killing verdict

A former director of public prosecutions has said there is “overwhelming” public interest in prosecuting senior police officers the over deaths of 96 Liverpool fans at Hillsborough after a jury concluded they were unlawfully killed.

Lord Macdonald who held the role from 2003-2008 added to growing calls for the police to held to account for the disaster.
