Newcastle creditable victory by dint of hard work and togetherness

A tough game, and one we were perhaps fortunate to take 3 points from. However, the bottom line is we wanted it more than Villa, and ground out another creditable victory by dint of hard work and togetherness.

FA Cup 3rd round Newcastle United 2 – 1 Blackburn Rovers

Perhaps unsurprisingly after Wednesday’s exertions, we were rather sluggish and leggy 1st half. We lacked any presence in their PA and several good crosses found no one in the PA and attacking the ball.

Newcastle United vs Wigan Athletic match review

In the 1st half Wigan stopped us playing through central midfield with Cabaye and Tiote constantly outnumbered. This is not the first time we’ve experienced this problem and it certainly won’t be the last because teams now realise how key Cabaye & Tiote are to our game.

Newcastle keep the top four spot after a convincing win against Blackburn

You got a real sense at St. James’ Park that something good may finally be happening for NUFC. This finally is Alan Pardew’s team, and it is improving all the time. It was a good win against a desperately poor Blackburn side, with some good individual performances.

A helluva big “IF” for the Toon

My frustration is that this perhaps the 3rd time under Ashley that we have been close to getting it right (that’s term is interpretive, I realise) but failed to nail it at the end of the day.

Newcastle still lacks of depth in key areas

In my honest opinion, we need more than a left back and striker. We now don’t have a single Premier League class full back – Simpson, Ryan Taylor are at best squad players, and Perch is worse than useless.

Bad boy Joey did it again

Not a great game, to put it mildly, but I’m happy with the point and reasonably satisfied with the performance. The fact neither keeper had to make a real save put the quality of the game into perspective, but we grafted hard to close them down and the spirit looked ok, which had been my...

Newcastle United robbed again in another late injury time equaliser

Despite a rather disappointing conclusion, this was a cracking football match between two comitted teams that gave every drop of energy to the cause. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many players of both teams dropping to the ground in sheer exhaustion at the final whistle.

A Nice Welcome Start to 2011 for Newcastle United

Probably too early to predict, but if we can manage another 5 wins starting from Wednesday night match at home against serious relegation candidate West Ham United and then Mackems away, we can be more comfortable to face the rests of this season.

Newcastle United Lack of Quality Midfielder in the absence of Joey Barton

A hard won point against a very well organised team. I couldn’t fault the effort, but the plain facts are that without Ben Arfa and Barton we lack creative quality in midfield.

It Was Like Men vs Boys at Times

The temporary mackem superiority bubble was burst asunder yesterday afternoon in the most one-sided derby I personally have ever witnessed. As former Geordie, Steve Bruce himself said after the game “it was like men v boys at times”.

A win and a farewell match for Newcastle and Steven Taylor

Canny showing against inferior opposition, and a victory that had us pondering in ‘Rupali’ on when was the last time we had a comfortable home win, and who was the last Toon player to score a hat trick at home. Most thought the latter would have been Alan Shearer but no one could remember against...
